Community Interpreting – This course has been designed to assist individuals with a second or third language to become qualified as a professional Community Interpreter. It is particularly useful for individuals who deliver interpreting services on a voluntary basis and who would like to formalise their experience in this area of work.
It will provide the learner with a high standard of professionalism and will formalise experiences in interpreting be it formal or informal.
All interpreters who undertake this course will be able to confidently interpret for clients whose English is not their first language. It is recognised by most organisations as a benchmark for assessment in effective interpreting.
Community Interpreting is delivered in 3 levels:
Level 1 – Understanding Community Interpreting
Level 2 – Essential skills in Community Interpreting
Level 3 – Advanced Essential skills in Community Interpreting
The course will have qualified staff available at all times and will play a prominent part in the development and delivery of all course modules and assessments. All tutors are qualified interpreters and will be able to provide regular 1 to 1 tuition for all participants of the course.
Completion of the three levels will allow the learner to continue onto courses such as Community Bilingual Skills or DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) and Registration on the NRPSI.
